Seminar for Japanese people on coexistence with foreigners: "I'm having trouble with my Indonesian employees! What should I do?" held on July 20th

This year, JAC plans to hold free "Lectures on Coexistence with Foreign Nationals for Japanese People" six times a year for Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam as part of a project to help create workplaces that are easy for specified skilled workers to work in, such as by supporting smooth communication at the workplace and in daily life.
The first seminar, "Having trouble with Indonesian employees? What to do?!" was held online on Thursday, July 20th. This seminar was attended by a large number of people, due in part to the fact that The Specified Skills (i) Evaluation Exam began in Indonesia in July.
The seminar invited Mr. Toru Horiike (PT.OS Selnajaya Indonesia), a man with a strong track record of sending many Indonesian talents to Japan, as its lecturer. He spoke on topics including relations between Japan and Indonesia, geography, race, annual events, religious views, and understanding correct Islam.
"The content was very interesting and completely different from what we learn in Japan, including a correct understanding of Ramadan (fasting) and daily prayers," the person commented.
Since 87% of Indonesians are Muslim, we received many questions about religion.
Key Questions
- How do other companies manage Ramadan and the long holiday that follows, Lebaran?
- Is it necessary to provide a prayer space?
etc.
It was a valuable opportunity for us at JAC to directly listen to the concerns of the host companies. We would like to organize more creative ways to hold this event in the future so that we can help create a workplace where multicultural coexistence is easy to work in.

We hope that a wide range of people will participate, including companies that currently employ or are considering employing Filipinos, and people who work with Filipinos in the field, and that this will provide some hints for working with foreigners.
