In order for a foreigner who has not undergone technical training to become Specified Skilled Worker (i), he or she must pass both skills evaluation exam equivalent to the level of the Skills Test Level 3 and a Japanese language test.
- How can I become Specified Skilled Worker (i)?

The method for becoming Specified Skilled Worker (i) varies depending on whether or not you have experience in technical training.

- How can a foreigner who has undergone technical intern training become Specified Skilled Worker (i)
- Foreigners who have successfully completed Technical Intern Training (ii) are exempt from skills evaluation exam and Japanese language test. Therefore, it is possible to become Specified Skilled Worker (i) without taking the test. Foreigners who have completed Technical Intern Training No. 3 are presumed to have successfully completed Technical Intern Training (ii), so they can become Specified Skilled Worker (i) without taking the test. In addition, foreign construction workers who are working with a "specified activities" status of residence are presumed to have successfully completed Technical Intern Training (ii), so they can change their status of residence from "specified activities" to "Specified Skilled Worker (i)" without taking the test.

According to the "Operational Guidelines for Accepting specified skilled workers" (main body) posted on the Ministry of Justice website, if the implementing organization of the technical intern training recognizes that the foreign national has completed Technical Intern Training Technical Intern Training (ii) successfully based on a written evaluation document that describes the foreign national's attendance during the training, the acquisition of skills, and lifestyle, etc., then specified skilled workers can transition to Specified Skills. However, if the company that intends to accept a specified skilled foreign national is the implementing organization that accepted the foreign national as a technical intern trainee, in principle, it can omit the submission of an evaluation record.
