02. How to become a Specified Skilled Worker and exams

In order for a foreigner who has not experienced Technical Intern Training to become a Specified Skilled Worker (i), it is necessary to pass both the skills evaluation exam and Japanese exams, which are equivalent to the level of the proficiency test level 3.

skills evaluation exam consists of an academic test and a practical test. The test level for the No. 1 assessment test is equivalent to the Skill Test Level 3, which tests the skills and knowledge that a beginner skilled worker should normally possess. The test level for the No. 2 assessment test is equivalent to the Skill Test Level 1, which tests the skills and knowledge that a senior skilled worker should normally possess. Japanese test refers to Japan Foundation Test for Basic Japanese(Implementing Entity: (German) Japan Foundation) orJapanese Proficiency TestN4 or higher (Implementing Entity: (German) Japan Foundation and (Public Corporation) Japan Educational Exchanges and Services). For details on the timing of the Japanese test, please check with the respective organizer.

According to the "Operational Guidelines for Accepting Specified Skilled Worker" (main body) posted on the website of the Ministry of Justice, it is possible to transfer to Specified Skills if the trainee who was performing the Technical Intern Training is recognized as having completed the Technical Intern Training (ii) well by a written evaluation that describes the foreigner's attendance, acquisition of skills, etc., and lifestyle during the internship. However, if the company intending to accept Specified Skilled Worker is an internship implementer who has accepted the foreigner as a Technical Intern Training student, in principle, the submission of the evaluation report may be omitted.
