03. How to secure Specified Skilled Worker (i)?

The host company must conclude a specified skilled worker employment contracts with "foreign nationals residing in Japan countries" or "foreign nationals coming to Japan from overseas".

"Foreigners residing in Japan" are primarily considered to be those who fall under the following categories:

(1) Those who are expected to complete the Technical Intern Training (ii) in good condition
(2) Those who are expected to complete Technical Intern Training No. 3
(3) International students and other foreign nationals who have passed both the skills evaluation exam and Japanese examinations.

For foreigners who have not completed the technical intern training plan, due to the nature of the status of residence "Technical Intern Training", it is not allowed to change to the status of residence "Specified Skills". However, it is possible to apply for Specified Skilled Worker Acceptance Plan in the construction field recognition from six months before the expiration date of the period of stay of the "Technical Intern Training" status of residence. In addition, in the case of foreign construction workers, it is possible to change to "Specified Skills" status of residence without waiting for the expiration date of the period of stay of the "Designated Activities". Foreigners currently residing in Japan with the status of residence "Technical Intern Training" or "Designated Activities" (foreign construction workers) Japan can change to their status of residence without temporarily returning to their home country. The total number of Specified Skilled Worker (i) and the total number of foreign construction workers must not exceed the total number of full-time employees of construction enterprises accepting Specified Skilled Worker (i).
